About the Issue

For thousands of years, fire has helped us heat our homes, kept us fed, and brought communities together.

Fire remains important for many Canadians. Beyond helping gather friends and family for a barbecue or cozy night around the fire, it gives us reliable secondary heating in the face of power outages and extreme weather.

As modern wood, gas, and propane fireplaces have become cleaner and more efficient over time, they’ve remained central to our homes. Access to these appliances needs to be protected for Canadians.
